Goodwill vs Money
Have been pretty busy. Starting a business soon so have to get ready all the paperworks and processes done up fast. Website that I have are starting to receive attention now, and I just discovered there are a lot of ways, one can use the current internet to broadcast their expertise and knowledge. All thanks to my friends. It certainly exciting to know there are a lot of platforms now I can use to showcase to people my expertise and knowledge. The only thing needed from me now is to commit to action. Taking actions to take advantage of these platforms that I come to know of. I really must work very hard now to gain a strong financial foundation before I move on to other things.
For those who are from NUS, just to inform you, 4 out of 10 bursaries given out by NUS is to a foreigner. So, alumni of NUS, still want to donate? You have a choice. Make it. I have made mine. Just a note, I have nothing against foreigners. In fact, I have many good friends that are from other countries. The benefit of globalisation. Haha!
Yesterday, I went to attend one of good friend's health talk. Very informative. If any of you are interested in attending the next one, let me know, I will inform you.
Anyway, the talk was arranged by my friend's business partner, let's call it Mr A and held in another business partner of Mr A's restaurant, let's call him Mr B. So me and my friends went to the restaurant to have dinner there then. Now Mr B and his restaurant partners heard the talk and found it informative. But I was quite surprised that they did not offer discount on my good friend's bill. Well, if I am the restaurant owner, I would have given a bit of discount, maybe just to recover the costs since I benefited a lot from the talk.(They asked a lot of questions, so that i how I gauge that have benefited from it.) But apparently, they did not.
Of cos it is ok that they did not give discount, but I think because of a few dollars, there were a lot of goodwill lost. I, for one don't think I would recommend the place to other people. The food is good, but not fantastic enough to recommend people. I initially wanted to hold my company's public meeting there since it is a cosy place, but after this episode, I doubt I will even entertain that thought. I also told my friend that such thing should only do once. The next time if it needs to be done, have to talk it out like a business partnership. No such thing as keep on giving without taking. I do not believe in that.
I think a person should give when he knows he has taken a lot from a person. Such a person would definitely be welcome in many places because people know such a person is not out to take advantage of people. And knowing how to give would create a lot of goodwill, at a small costs, which are immeasurable by money. No need to grab money too tight. Money can be earned back, but once goodwill is lost, that is it. Very difficult to earn it back. Moreover if you grab money too tight, it will come to a point where you are working for money, because it has control over you, instead of you making money work for you.
Time and goodwill are very important once they are lost, it is very difficult to recover it or almost impossible. Do not place money above them, because when you do, you become enslave by money which is not healthy.
Cheers!
