Observe and you shall learn
Anyway, the bus is crowded as usual today, but this time I decide to ignore what I was listening on my MP3 player, hold my reading and observe the other commuters inside the bus. Well nice discovery. Three most common activity on a bus, sleep, listen to something and chatting on the phone! Haha! Sleep, I can understand. In Singapore, a lot of the people are sleep deprived. They work extremely hard for their boss and in the end their health suffer. The Ministry of Health should conduct exhibition to inform Singaporeans how to have better sleeping habits. This can improve our workforce and study-force productivity. Why aren't anyone doing it? In end, sleep in the bus but the rest benefits you derived is mediocre because who can get quality sleep in a bus that has all kinds of smell and sound?
Listening on the MP3 player, well what can I say, what if you are listening to some self development audio clips? That would really make full use of your time. But most of the people would rather listen to some music or radio station. I guess on the bus it is the only time they can get some break away from the their work routine, but they are not breaking away from their day routine. Wonder such a break is good or not. :P Well I am guilty of it, but in the bus I read books or newspaper, so time is not wasted for me. I am still improve myself during the bus journey.
Chatting on the phone. No comments. People need to feel connected and hand phone has help most people in this aspect. I also would like to chat on the phone but, very expensive for me, because mine is using a prepaid card, and I do not have anyone special to talk to anyway. Haha! :P
Anyone interested about the fourth most common activity in the bus? Well, reading lah! I saw a lot of people reading in the bus as well. What they read? Well novels and what else, newspaper lah. Why novels ah? Well in the bus, it is the only time they can read the novel and escape into a different world before they fall flat in reality and back to routine work. For me, I read books and newspapers. Books on business and self development. :)
For any entrepreneur, I strongly suggest you take a bus during peak hours. Not that I am crazy, but inside a bus you can see the consumer trends very well and some pretty and well dressed office girls of course. Haha! Want to know what is the latest hot novels? Just look at the people who are reading, what they are reading. Latest popular handphone model? Look at those people who are chatting on the phone. And looking at the hand phone one used, it can tell you something about the person. Serious. If you put some thought and deduction into it, you can tell a person from, maybe not handphone alone, but at the activity he/she is doing in the bus, the character of that person. Want to know what is the latest office fashion wear?
Well, look at the ladies! ;) Haha!
So actually a crowded bus is a treasure trove of information waiting to be discovered. Open you eyes, use a bit of brain and you will find a lot of nuggets of useful information inside. So try it next time you are on a crowded bus or MRT. Stop what you usually do and observe. You never know what interesting thing you will find out.
Cheers!
