1--> 10 -->100-->1000
Anyway, was discussing this issue with a group of colleagues. I was reading an article where it says that for most people, they did not get their jobs from jobs website or cold calling. They get their jobs through....... not friends or relatives, but acquaintance, people whom they have not known deep enough or have not known for a long time. Funny right? Most biz opportunities, I guess are found that way as well. I think no use exploring why there is such a phenomenon. More importantly is, how do you exploit such a fact.
Now this does not mean that you go around and turn all your friends into acquaintances. That is short sighted. What you should do is make more friends! Don't understand? Very simple, see the title of this blog?
The more friends you make, the more acquaintances you are going to make, which means more avenues of opportunity for you. But hold on to this fact first. What do you need to know more acquaintances?
1) Credibility - You are what you said you are.
2) Integrity - Honest or not?
3) Friendly disposition - Who would want to hang out with a person who is always sad or angry?
4) People Skill - If you are not sensitive to other people feelings, always making people angry or sad, who wants to be with you?
I think lack of anyone of these, no one would want to be associated with you, much more introduce new friends to you. For those that are looking for opportunities, dare to step out and make more friends, don't worry if you offend someone. Be fast to apologise and mentioned that you did not do it on purpose.
Be a giver. As I mentioned in my blog, sow first, then you can reap. If you are waiting for people to give you, using a Singapore slang, WAIT LONG LONG! Unless maybe, you have some credibility. But such a relationship is only built on benefits, not relationship, it crumbles easily.
Use the numerical power of network to your advantage, build strong relationship, be a giver! No man is an island. Use the tools that we have now to build good networks.
Cheers!
